Bit.Trip: Beat (WiiWare)

Game Profile

Bit.Trip Beat is a rhythm game that brings retro action into the present, letting you use the motion-sensing Wii Remote controller to bounce beats.

Retro visuals, classic game play, four-player multiplayer and an 8-bit soundtrack will get you in the zone and rock your world. The challenges are mighty, but if you can stay cool as the difficulty increases, you'll discover the beginnings of the Bit.Trip saga.

Gaijin Games brings the classic ‘Pong’ up to date in style in the first in the series of Bit.Trip games

It seems nowadays if you want to revive a classic videogame idea, you only need add in some pulsing musical beats and some flashy background visuals in order to do so. The creators of Lumines managed to revive the stale "falling blocks" puzzler..

Sounds really, really great to me =).

Reminds me of the awesome 'bit generations'-/'Art Style'-series, so i am very interested in the other 4 Bit.Trip games, too.

And yes, a video would be very nice^^.

The more I see this one, the more interested I become. I still love the original Pong games, so the fact that this one adds the musical aspects to the mix is intriguing to say the least.

I'm still surprised it hasn't come out yet. But given the fact that both EVASIVE SPACE and SNOWBOARD RIOT were planned for January release and got delayed till the following month, I bet Bit.Trip Beat will come out this Monday, or next! :D

Dl'ed Bit.Trip Beat, and I can't stop playing it. Probably my favorite Wii game (Wiiware or otherwise). If you like games like Lumines or Rez, you owe it to yourself to play it.

This game looks cool but the screen noise looks like it could be frustrating. I am just curious about how annoying is all the background noise on the screen. If anyone who has played could give me their opinion that would be great. I am one of the older gamers and often too much image noise makes it too difficult for me to see the actual game elements, and causes too much frustration. Otherwise I think I want this one.

Update: I got this game a while back and thought I would update this post.
This game is very well done for what it is. This retro is a perfect blend of old and new. It’s very hard in a repetitive way meaning, depending on how well you can memorize patterns, as each level plays out exactly the same each time. The scoring method will keep you coming back for more. The screen patterns can really mess with your eyes, but it’s not intolerable and part of the challenge. I love the “near-death” screen instead of just dying it gives you one last chance to save yourself in a 70’s version of the game in Black&White and with beeps for sound. Fill your meter bar and you are saved to continue the game but miss too many and you are done.
The US version is slightly crippled with how the game-saves works you have to achieve a personal best score plus finish the level. It took me several level finishes to finally get a game-save. In fact what I ended up doing was deleting my save file, because I managed to get a great score without finishing a level. Once I deleted it and went through the level I got my game-save that then allows you to jump to the next level at game startup.
Once I finish “Beat” I will be getting “Core” for sure. Great game highly recommended.

Hey, did you guys fix the fact that you need a highscore to save for the EU release? Cause I just passed the first level without a highscore, and it saved.
Anyway, this game is awesome. My one complaint is that the levels are too long which can really mess with your eyesight after a while. I would have preferred 6 levels of half the size...
