Frontier’s David Braben – the industry veteran behind the classic space trading game Elite, as well as many others – has given an insightful and interesting interview regarding his new game and the state of WiiWare development as he sees it.
LostWinds will debut when the WiiWare service goes live in the US in May, and Braben is optimistic that the game will find the audience it deserves.
We are extremely proud of the game, and we expect it to do well - it is clearly a fantastic opportunity for us and we're doing our best to grab it with both hands. There are enough Wiis in the world that LostWinds has the potential to make us as much profit/royalty income as a disc-based game. Given that we only work on two or three of those at any one time, that's a potentially significant positive impact on our business.
We're fortunate to be financially robust enough and have ongoing contracted projects with publishing partners that LostWinds isn't a make or break venture for us in monetary terms. I think the really significant impact LostWinds will have is to gain the experience from developing and promoting a game on a download channel like this. The lessons we will learn on the way will be invaluable as digital downloads increase in significance as a distribution medium.

Interesting, I'll have to check it out but I'd rather just have Elite 4 please.

Yeah, the game looks good, and it's good to see developers approaching WiiWare with the right mindset (unlike that naff eating game), but I too would rather see Elite 4 !

Another vote for Elite 4. Frontier was one of my favorite games on the Amiga, and there's nothing quite like it...

Appearently David Braben has said that Elite 4 will appear on this generations consoles. Is that good enough then?

I really hope so Joxe, but from what I've read he (David Braben) expected Elite 4 to be finished roundabout 2012 :S

I'm psyched about this game! It looks sure to add to the small handful games top put the Wii-mote to great use, that isn't a mini-game-collection or sport game. Let's hope the execution is as good as the concept. I also hope the game isn't too short; even if it only costs $5-$10, that's still not good value if you only get a few hour of game play out of it.

My wife has been warned: Wiiware release week, our home network will be under strain as I download everything I can get my bloody claws on.... And yup, this game is on "The List"

I agree: if its short, no matter how pretty it should be 500-800. If it has decent length and is VERY solid, then 1000. It looks sloid, but i need to play it/read the reviews first. Good Luck, LW crew!
