Gravitronix - Still Alive And Kicking!

Posted Sun, 03 Aug 2008 by Darren Calvert

Since our interview with Jesse Lowther, lead designer and CEO of Medaverse Studios way back in February this year, you would be forgiven for thinking that Gravitronix is never going to come out. After all, normally by now we’d expect to see some screenshots or PR hype.

Worry not readers, Medaverse just had their Alpha Night and it seems all is well in Gravitronix land:

Tonight was our first REAL alpha test of Gravitronix, the one where we sat down and were forced to determine the answer to that one terrifying question: is it FUN?

Thankfully, the answer is now clear to us, and it's a resounding yes.

I was holding off on discussing any of the gameplay mechanics we've been implementing because I couldn't be certain if any number of my ideas would pan out, but everything seems to have come together rather nicely with the basic gameplay.

From here on in, we'll be tweaking, balancing and integrating some of the more advanced techniques into the gameplay.

Still, it's a huge milestone for us and for Gravitronix and a big step on the way to its eventual release. :)

It’s good to hear things are still on track with the development at least. Medaverse seem like an indie studio with heart. Watch this space for any new developments in this mysterious WiiWare game.

Okay, I'd like to have an Idea of what the basic gameplay is, but at least we know the games still coming out. Hold off on that auction folks, Gravitronics is still alive and kicking!

I have no idea what genre it is but I bet it's puzzle. WiiWare seems to get a lot of puzzle games.

Alpha...I'm assuming that comes before Beta testing...? Lol I wonder how much work they still have to do...and they're still being secretive...

This game's been on my watch list for months. Good to see it hasn't hit developmental hell. :)

So the maker says it's fun, well let's all believe that and buy it straight away before IGN, GS and WWW give it a 1 ;)

It could be good, but I'll never listen to a dev when they're saying how great their game is.

Does anyone know what the game is actually like gameplay wise? I just heard about it today.

With a name like Gravitronix, I'd leap to the (probably erroneous) conclusion that someone's having fun with the universal gravitation formula. With the Wiimote, that could be very interesting... but we'll just have to wait and see.

Could use SOME real info/pics/video of this in order to start to care about it. Secrecy does nothing for me.

The logo looks... awful. But I'm curious about that title... I mean, with no screenshots, I can only be curious.

From Medaverse's website:

"Details:
-Gravitronix is an action/battle game for 1-4 players (possibly 8).
-The game takes place in a single-screen arena.
-The objects seen in the logo are the projectiles used as weapons.
-These projectiles will have different physics, making them behave differently depending on how you use them.
-There will be a great deal of depth in the control scheme.
-Veteran players will master maneuvers which make rookie players cry "HAX!!!"
-These details are intentionally vague, but we will have screenshots and movies closer to release which will explain everything."

Latest blog entry explains the process in making the game and mentions that they'll have some details on gameplay up soon: http://www.medaverse.com/blog/2008/08/whats-the-hold-up-the-inner-wo.html

@Objection_Blaster:

You'd think so, but it's actually better to generate hype the same week it'll release on WiiWare so it's still fresh in everyone's mind.
