Those of you that possess a fondness for the NES classic Kid Icarus might be interested to learn that Spanish developer Over The Top Games has announced its first title for the WiiWare service, named Icarian: Kindred Spirits. The game appears to be a 2.5D platforming epic and shares many similarities with Nintendo’s legendary title.
Visually it’s all looking very polished indeed, and the art style is certainly a cut above the usual stuff we’re used to with the vast majority of WiiWare games.
Check out the official site for more info.
Experience with ICARIAN: KINDRED SPIRITS™ the awesome story of Nyx, an enigmatic winged girl, that must descend from heaven in search of her missing friend Icarus.
Overfly the ruins of ancient Greece and avoid falling into blazing sands or perishing in the claws of cruel harpies and hydras.
You will need the help of Zeus and other benevolent Gods from Olympus to summon their powers. They will let you cast rays, modify the scenery and control winds at your wish...
With your own wrist movements and pointing to the game screen, you will be able to achieve these and many other feats in this new and enjoyable Wii™ platform game.Fly, aim and shoot using the new and fullest potential of your Wii Remote™.

This looks sweet! It's great to see a (hopefully) decent platformer coming to wiiware.

That looks cool. The developer looks legit, too. For a second I was thinking it was going to be one of those high school kids that was good at rendering in Photoshop but that looks like a professional company.

Another Spanish developer has a go at WiiWare, cool
The game is looking good and coop is a great plus for me.
But there might be similarities with LostWinds.

Is this what we are getting instead of a Kid Icarus remake thats been rumored ever since the Wii was released? It may not officially be a Kid Icarus game but It sure seems like that's what they are going for.
Personally I still don't understand Why there's even a single person who has fond memories of that game. It was annoyingly difficult and quite frustrating.

^Did you play Kid Icarus when it first came out? It wasn't really that much more difficult than tens of other titles out at the time ande I don't recall ever having a hard time with it at all (gamers were made of sterner stuff way back then

Looks and sounds as dull as ditch water, so yes - I can see where people might make references to LostWinds. It'll probably be shorter too. Where the hell is the danger in any of these screens (other than the fear of dieing before seeing anything remotely threatening?)
I'm going for sub-par on this one - maybe 5/10 at best (with 3 of those points going to visuals)

My eyes are burning, and this is in a good tense. These visuals are stunning for a WiiWare game, now for the gameplay, these look like good ideas but the gameplay better not be a total mess in others' opinions(refrences P*******n). So I'm saying good work, the gameplay better match the visuals. But for price I'm guessing 1000-1200.

Wow, impressive visuals. But I'm just worried about Icarian may be to closed of Lost Winds in term of gameplay.
Well, I don't know anything about it, but with what we have now, we can presume that (a flying character, 2.5 D plateformer, etc.)
Whatever, wishlist for me.

This looks pretty cool from what little I've seen. If more good-looking (referencing both gameplay and visuals) games were released on WiiWare, maybe I wouldn't have such a problem with the frequent VC/WiiWare ratio problems...

This could be a good game as long as they do not mess it up. Likesome of the other dev who have a great idea and mess it up.

Kid Icarus may be overrated but it was still a good game. Seeing that we're not being told about a new Kid Icarus game on Wii (which would be so awesome) this should be a good filler while we wait for an official version.

FINALLY! A platformer for my insatiable need for one. The visuals alone warrant me buying it. If the controls are as tight as Kid Icarus's then I will be a very happy camper indeed!
Also I hope that this game is pretty challenging but not as challenging as Mega Man 9 though. We must break through the downpour of puzzle titles!
PS- Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates it! Be sure to stuff yourselves!

If this really is the new Kid Icarus that we've all been waiting for (give us Punch Out!! will ya Nintendo?), then WOOPWOOPWOOPWOOPWOOP. Plus: there's co-op gameplay. Here's hoping we'll get this in the next couple of months (though not December - I've got enough on my plate for then)

@ECM
I never played the original Kid Icarus until I checked it out on VC.
I was hearing all the praise it was getting so I downloaded it.
I did eventually beat it but frankly I was not too impressed.
I found it to be decent enough but as I said I felt it was rather frustrating. I did own the Gameboy sequel and In my opinion it was better. I'm also old enough to remember the days when gamers were made of sterner stuff. I just didn't have much patience back then.

Wow, that's just gorgeous! I love how they captured the majesty of the ancient world there. Everything is painted like it should be, the statues look new, and the hoplite helmet is a nice touch.
I hope they put as much effort into the gameplay as they did the graphics. If so, this is going to be an instant winner!

I downloaded KI a year ago and thought it was a pretty good game, albeit extremely overrated, so I definitely have high hopes for this. The graphics look wonderful for a Wiiware game.

Regarding all the "where are the baddies, this will have no challenge" comments.
I remember people saying that about another game when it first debuted....now what was its name again....Ah yes, "Super Mario 64"
No idea what happened to that game.
