Nicalis Updates Cave Story Progress

Posted Thu, 08 Jan 2009 by Corbie Dillard

Cave Story almost finished?

Cave Story almost finished?

In an entry yesterday on their official blog, Nicalis spoke a little bit about the progress on their upcoming WiiWare title Cave Story. They also let gamers in on a little surprise announcement regarding some additional content for the game as well.

You can check out the relevant quote from the blog entry below to find out exactly what this nice little surprise they have in store for WiiWare fans was.

Yes, we’ve been MIA for a bit. No, I’m not dead. And, no, Cave Story for Wii hasn’t been killed. Truth be told we did try to make it in time for Christmas, however, we weren’t able to do so. We’ve taken more time to make sure everything is perfect.

We’re still working away at Cave Story trying to make sure it’s faithful to Amaya-san’s original while adding a few things for the console release. One of these new additions, I’m happy to announce is Download Content. I think we received enough e-mails demanding it that we’re doing our best to include some new surprises in the WiiWare release. You’re going to have to wait for more info on that.

The game is obviously not finished yet, so those gamers who have been constantly holding their breath for a WiiWare release week after week can finally relax for a bit. On the good side of things, at least the prospect of some additional downloadable content is a nice surprise.

We'll have more information on Cave Story as it becomes available, as well as a full review of the game once it hits the WiiWare service.

More games should have DLC on WiiWare. I'm glad Cave Story is taking advantage of it.

I have no idea what this game is, from my idea it is a platforminggame with a large story line. I always love DLC, because it adds som much more life to the game, such as endless modes, new levels, possible level editors, and so on. It alows the develepers to keep improving and adding to the game.

Good to know he's not dead, but seriously, DLC? As long as its free I dont mind, but Im seriously sick of paying for an extra level that easily could have been put into the final product.

Both, the fact that the game is going to take a while and the announcement of DLC are great news for me, Cave Story rules!

I don't know what brought this up in my mind, but I've been wondering how does everyone here know english? I mean I see tons of people from the likes of Finland, Spain, Holland, and Germany, but I never knew how all of you guys know english. Is english a required course in your respective countries or was it optional?

Sorry for that. Anyway, Cave Story. Yeah, I'm lookin' forward to getting it.

Cave story is my favorite game currently, I've beaten it numerous times already. I didn't care if they released it on the holidays, my only worry is if the game will get updated in America.

I agree with everyone who thinks the DLC should be free. I don't want to pay for extra levels if they are part of the storyline. If they are just levels that don't have anything to do with the story, then fine with me.

@beastman: .................................

Yeah, how does that work? But I'm pretty sure English is required (its the most used language in the world. Chinese is second), so that would give them limited knowledge, but as for the fluent speakers, I have no idea. I've been taking Spanish for years and I'm not close to fluent yet.

But I'm definitely always looking for ways to utilize my Wii. This is a perfect announcement.

Zaphod Beeblebrox

I'm always astonished that people actually ask for and celebrate DLC. The naive assumption is that DLC is stuff the developer does after release to keep the game alive, blah, blah, blah. Naive people, DLC is done before release. You're paying extra for stuff they've already done and have withheld for later sale. That's how it works.

So stop asking for and getting excited about DLC!!! Naive people of the world, get a clue!

MisterSmith

27. MisterSmith United States 09 Jan 2009, 03:32 GMT

If it means more money for pixel, than I'm sold. As long as it's actual content (levels, items, or whatever) and not something like a different skin or something. If it's free, I'm sure I won't mind whatever it is regardless. The main game is my main concern anyway.

Twilight Crow

28. Twilight Crow Mexico 09 Jan 2009, 04:04 GMT

@Zaphod Beeblebrox
Relax man, the point of DLC is that you get what you want to DL and avoid the rest, that can save you some space and, sometimes, money, after all the complete game would cost more if it had all this content already (unless the content is free of course).

@beastman93
"usted dice" how polite :P.
Actually you say "¿Cómo se llega a la gasolineria?" I know verb conjugation is hard, keep it up ;)
I studied english 3 years before I got fluent, it's supposed to be obligatory around here but you only get the basics at the course, to get it right you need a private school.

English is a required course here and in most countries in Europe.
And in countries like Portugal where games aren't usually translated, English is a must.

DLC! Great :D
I wonder if we can play with Curly! XD

Funkey - I'll wait to see how the game reviews before I purchase it, not because I think it looks naff (I don't), but because I'm still unsure whether or not it's for me. Can't wait to find out, though.

lockelocke

35. lockelocke United States 09 Jan 2009, 18:41 GMT

He said DLC, he didn't say pay to play. There's still a possibility the DLC works like Alien Crush Return's. So, no need to get your panties in a bunch.

Mickeymac

36. Mickeymac United States 09 Jan 2009, 20:10 GMT

Yes, I can't wait! In the mean time, I'll be enjoying the PC version, which in itself is totally awesome. I just hope they do a better job on the translation, the fan-translation for the PC one is kind of weak, seems really awkward most of the time.

@soniczelda dude: Neat avatar! Love that game ... Actually I just love sonic games in general including Secret Rings and Unleashed, though secret rings is fackin hard. Cool, either way I'm probably gonna buy this, I love pixel games. I can see you're not thinking the same thing, as you added a :( at the end of the message.

Objection_Blaster

43. Objection_Blaster United States 11 Jan 2009, 03:32 GMT

@soniczeldadude-You can play with the original graphics if you so choose.
@beastman-In most countries, English is a required course because it is often the No.1 2nd language. We aren't required and/or aren't taught foreign languages very well which is why very few of us Americans can speak foreign languages our parents, etc. didn't teach us sufficiently.
ARTICLE: I hope they do the DLC like ACR did, but I just pray they don't overprice it like MM9
