It's Wednesday again and time for the WiiWare Top 20!
It's time to take a look at the most popular WiiWare titles available on the Wii Shop Channel. If you're feeling adventurous you can even take a look for yourself by simply logging on to your Wii Shop Channel, heading into the WiiWare section and then viewing "Popular Games". It's that easy!
We compile this list using the USA region Wii Shop channel, so if you live elsewhere your list will probably be quite a bit different. Please feel free to post your region's findings below as always.
Keep in mind that the list below is a measure of actual sales made recently, not of the total time the game has been available for sale.
Here is the list for the 20th of May:
1
- World of Goo
2
- My Aquarium
3 (3) - Tetris Party
4 (4) - My Pokémon Ranch
5 (5) - Dr Mario Online Rx
6 (7) - Defend Your Castle
7 (8) - Cue Sports - Pool Revolution
8 (6) - Onslaught
9 (9) - Fun! Fun! Minigolf
10 (10) - Crystal Defenders R1
11 (11) - Brain Challenge
12 (13) - BIT.TRIP BEAT
13 (12) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
14 (19) - Mega Man 9
15 (14) - Bomberman Blast
16 (15) - Sandy Beach
17 (18) - Target Toss Pro: Bags
18 (16) - Wild West Guns
19 (17) - Midnight Bowling
20 (20) - Pop'Em Drop'Em SAMEGAME
* (N) - Denotes a brand new entry on the Top 20
*
- Denotes a game that was not on the Top 20 last week
Well we're back to a "Fabulous Five" again since the top five games remain intact from last week's chart. The World of Goo reign of terror continues with no signs of stopping at this point.
The big climber this week was Capcom's Mega Man 9 title, which jumped up five more spots to #14. This game is shooting back up the charts and it will be interesting to see how high it can climb on its second run through the chart. BIT.TRIP BEAT even managed to jump up one more spot to #12. The big dropper this week was a 3-way tie between Midnight Bowling, Wild West Guns, and Onslaught, which all fell a paltry two spots.
There were no new entries on the chart this week, but the big jump from Mega Man 9 at least provided one highlight to this week's Top 20. Maybe we'll see Crystal Defenders R2 make an appearance next week.

Hardly anything different then. Oh well. Wonder how Swords and Soldiers will fare when released in the US

I really don't get the appeal of My Aquarium.
3. Bass X0
20 May 2009, 21:18 BST
I still can't believe My Aquarium is still selling this much. I don't believe the top twenty is exactly accurate to what is being sold recently. Surely there must be a point where every Wii owner who wants it will have it. Its good that Mega Man 9 is going back up the charts.

My Aquarium sucks, I launched it once.
I'm boggled by Bonsai Barber being gone. Seriously, it's the funnest WiiWare game I've played since World of Goo. I just wish it let me do more than 5 cuts a day!

(14) 20 Adventure Island The Beginning
Exit: Bubble Bobble Plus (18), LostWinds (16)
Wow, a LOT of movement this time. Swords and Soldiers races straight to the first spot, let's see how long that'll last. Rainbow Islands also managed to make a belated entry after not showing at all last week. The biggest dropper was Bit Trip Beat though Adventure Island, Equilibrio and Crystal Defenders also lost a lot of ground. My Aquarium even overtakes poker this week. Brain Challenge got a strange boost too.
6. Rum Rapture

I should shock everyone and say "I haven't bought World of Goo yet"... I haven't bought World of Goo yet.
8. feba
20 May 2009, 21:48 BST
I also haven't bought World of Goo, and intend to eventually. So yeah, I can fully understand how that game stays pinned up there. My Aquarium, I imagine, is primarily good because it's at the top of the charts. I'd love to see some gamey-games up there, like Bit.Trip Beat or MM9, though.

There are not enough Hudson games on this list

First of all I just wanted to point out that yesterday a video of Team ICOs upcoming game, tentatively named "Project Trico", leaked onto the web. If you haven't seen it yet I command you to immediately go to youtube and check it out. And if you don't like it, I'm sorry but we can't be friends anymore. And I'm aware that posting such a thing on a Nintendo specific site is rather odd but it's just so pretty I can't help myself.
Also, today is the 1 year anniversary of the EU WiiWare shop. How about that. Yay! In addition to that, LostWinds celebrate having spent a full year uninterrupted on the chart, a rather astonishing feat I must say. In addition to that, My Life As A King manages a similar feat since it's charted every single CHART day of the last year, however that game has left the chart on atleast one occasion in midweek. The next game that will be able to register such a feat is Defend Your Castle, in August.
(For the record, TV Show King did not chart for 6 of the weeks)
Swedish top 20:
(-) 1 - Swords & Soldiers
(2) 2 - World Of Goo
(1) 3 - Bit.Trip: Beat
(6) 4 - Rainbow Islands Towering Adventure!
(3) 5 - Bubble Bobble Plus!
(8) 6 - Mega Man 9
(9) 7 - Texas Hold'em Tournament
(4) 8 - Onslaught
(5) 9 - My Aquarium
(12) 10 - Fun! Fun! Minigolf
(7) 11 - Crystal Defenders R1
(10) 12 - LostWinds*
(14) 13 - My Pokémon Ranch
(16) 14 - Bomberman Blast
(17) 15 - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King*
(19) 16 - Defend Your Castle
(13) 17 - Tetris Party

(18) 20 - Equilibrio

I think NintendoLife should do their own ranking of the top 20 wiiware titles. Maybe even rank the top 20 VC titles as well.
14. Terranigma
20 May 2009, 22:18 BST
Seems my purchase of SIGE did nothing for the UK charts then. Also, that is amazing how Swords and Soldiers did so well. Here's hoping it will dethrone My Aquarium. Good to see LostWinds back up there again.

Don't people read reviews before buying games, My Aquariam and My Pokemon Ranch are BAD.

20 May 2009, 23:05 BST
MEGA MAN RETURNS!!!!! Yes
I can't wait to see the Big 3 crumble when Swords & Soldiers gets released
@subzero: I wouldn't say My Aquarium is bad (look at this sites review) its just not a game in a traditional sense. If you wanted a fish simulator, you got the best, most affordable one on the market.

20 May 2009, 23:15 BST
Worth noting that here in Canada, Family Pirate Party made it to 19th ahead of Pop 'Em Drop 'Em Same Game (currently ranked 20th). Crystal Defenders R1 is around 7th.
Also worth mentioning that Majora's Mask is already 2nd place, beating out Super Mario Bros. and trailing only behind SMB3! OoT is 7th or so. Wow. That's a CRAZY jump to have in the span of like two or three days!
18. Bahamut ZERO
20 May 2009, 23:44 BST
@JJ: They did Corbie's Top 20 (or 10, I forget) VC games, and the TOp 5 WiiWare games of 08 (which was it's first year).
19. 0-Watt
20 May 2009, 23:58 BST
Heh, I know why there's been so little movement of the Top 20. Look at the recent US releases. None have been really good since Bonsai Barber, based on some reviews I've seen. Others have been meh or poor.

Thanks for posting the list chris. I knew it was 7th or 8th. I knew for sure that MLK was right after it though.
Cue Sports isn't doing AS well as it is in the U.S unfortunately and there must be something about Sandy Beach that's actually good because it's still on the charts!

Wow, things seem to be pretty normal...wait...on the Japanese charts...is that POKEMON RANCH: PLATINUM? Please tell me I'm not reading this right. I don't want two crap titles of my cherished Pokemon series to be the top of the Wiiware charts. One is hard enough to bear...
43. Dawnclaude
22 May 2009, 07:23 BST
btw. where is Penguins & friends in the USA Charts?
44. Sean Aaron
23 May 2009, 01:43 BST
@Crazed: No I think it's the same game, they just call it that; probably to tie in with Pokemon Platinum on the DS. Oddly enough this was the only WiiWare title on my Japanese Wii when I received it from an Ebay seller (no, I'm not really interested and haven't checked it out, but if I ever change my mind I can always download it again!). I also have a Japanese version of SSBB if anyone's interested...
