NoA's sudden WiiWare push continues, with yet another 3 WiiWare games and 1 game for both DSiWare and Virtual Console.
Nintendo seems to be focusing on WiiWare a lot lately. Perhaps they're just trying to stir up excitement for upcoming big releases? It mostly seems to be a Europe catchup week - Only two WiiWare games are new for the west and neither seems very interesting.
Water Warfare is Hudson's second WiiWare FPS, and it's pretty much the opposite of Onslaught, being heavily focused on multiplayer instead of single player. With 8-player deathmatch, capture the flag and base capture modes, along with "harmless" versions of weapons and items found in other FPS games, it's every bit as fun and deep as "hardcore" games - It's just less violent! We literally just put our review of the game online as well, so you can see if it's worth it before the game is released. As in Europe, it will cost you 800 Wii Points.
We didn't even know Reel Fishing Challenge was a WiiWare game until today! It's already the third WiiWare game about fishing, but only the second that actually makes you fish. We suspect that this will simply be a slightly more realistic approach to the sport as opposed to Cocoto Fishing Master's cutesy impression, but we'll have to wait and see when it's available. Perhaps it will be similar to Natsume's retail Reel Fishing game? For 500 Wii Points we assume you can't go too wrong with it...
Silver Star Reversi is the second "Silver Star" game, and is, as you might've guessed from the title, based on the board game Reversi. The first game, Chess, was fairly simplistic, but decent if you wanted a cheap chess game on your Wii - We suspect this will end up similarly, especially since it's 500 Wii Points as well.
DSiWare's single new game this week is the first of Hudson's two Sudoku packages, Sudoku Master, previously released in Europe as "Sudoku 150! For Challengers." We have no idea why Hudson has chosen to release this 150-puzzle version in North America first as well, surely it'd be smarter to release the smaller 50-puzzle package first? Nevertheless, as our review will tell you, it's quite a good package if you like solving Sudokus, and at 500 DSi Points it's decently priced as well.
The Virtual Console gets a long-overdue game - Fantasy Zone II was already released in Europe and Japan earlier this year. As you can imagine this is quite simply a bigger, better sequel to the original Fantasy Zone, making it one of the best Master System titles available on VC, and thus a great purchase for a measly 500 points.
Five new games, but some of them will likely only appeal to select gamers. Will you be getting any of them? More from Nintendo's press release:

Personally not interested in any of these games this week. Just have to download something else I haven't been able to yet!
100th WiiWare game, I had no idea! Fingers crossed for something big like Pokemon Scramble or Super Meat Boy, though the latter I think we'd have heard something about its release by now.
@Angelic Lapras King - When I read that at Nintendo's press site I thought so too. But alas I didn't like Fantasy Zone all that much.

SuperSonic1990 is PISSED OFF in this following message:
Except for Fantasy Zone II,all these games are crap [except possibly Water Warfare too]. This is the case of quanity over quality. I was excpeting Super Smash Bros.,or Altered Beast,or Super Mario Kart.
But no,WE GET THESE GAMES INSTEAD!!!! WHY!?
Increase the number of VC games released every week NOA,FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! If this hype for future WiiWare games,I hate to think what they are. Perhaps,Pong Toss II. I might buy Fantasy Zone II and MAYBE Water Warfare, but THIS UPDATE IS HORRIBLE!!!

29 Jun 2009, 14:10 BST
It's gonna be BIT TRIP Core, WiiGuy. We knew that already. Other Wiiware could come out as well.
Nothing for me this week, but I like this triple wiiware trend. Filter the more shovelware type stuff out quickly. I'm sure NoA is seeing more and more wiiware developers giving them software to certify. Everyone want's a piece of the pie
12. Olimar_91
29 Jun 2009, 14:10 BST
Not a bad week. I'm still pleased that we're getting so many Wiiware games each week, gives you some variety to chose from.
If only the VC would pickup.
DSiware at its current rate makes sense, as I doubt there is a huge line-up of games on the waiting list as it stands.

Super Meat Boy, though the latter I think we'd have heard something about its release by now.

Great week. Three WiiWare titles once again and this has me hopeful for a potentially-epic update next week.
Anyone getting Reel Fishing Challenge? I'll be looking for impressions later on tonight.
I was expecting something a little better for VC but it's not bad. I just don't think I'll get it since I have Super Fantasy Zone.

29 Jun 2009, 14:22 BST

24. postmanX3
29 Jun 2009, 14:24 BST
The 100th WiiWare game should be Cave Story, but since it's already Bit.Trip.Core, I guess that hope's shot. Oh well.
Pretty crap update this week. We haven't really gotten anything worth downloading in FOREVER. Honestly, I haven't downloaded anything for months! Water Warfare will probably be my first download in a while, and I might check out Onslaught while I'm at it. Dunno about that, though.
25. KnucklesSonic8
29 Jun 2009, 14:25 BST
Dunno where you got that info from... And boy were your expectations ever high for this update...
@postman: I wouldn't be surprised at all if Cave Story popped up next week or the week after!
26. Hyper Luigi
29 Jun 2009, 14:28 BST
@KnucklesSonic8-Actually,Tails86 told me that info,he said that he thought something big will be released today. Yeah, right. At least he was right about the Sudoku game being released today.
27. KnucklesSonic8
29 Jun 2009, 14:30 BST
You should know by now that NoA is unpredictable with VC releases. The Sudoku game was confirmed a week ago.
Just be patient. Let's hope SSB64 comes out next month but I can't say for sure as to when it'll release. I'm just making a prediction. I'm not ready to give up just yet. It'll come when you least expect it, lol. Would be nice if they had it alongside Bit.Trip CORE next week though.

29 Jun 2009, 14:32 BST
Looks like the VC is in the midst of a dry season. Fantasy Zone II looks pretty cool though.
29. Rapadash6
29 Jun 2009, 14:43 BST
Well, I can't really agree with those of you who say this is a bad update because Water Warfare and Fantasy Zone II are pretty good games. I'm disappointed there's no Smash (or Cave Story) in North America yet as well, but that doesn't mean these games aren't worth your time. Besides there's always next week.
30. Cheezy
29 Jun 2009, 14:50 BST
I'm a little dissapointed. Pretty weak if you ask me. No big games this week. I'll download the Sudoku game because it got an 8, but I'm still a bit skeptical about it.
31. Mike
29 Jun 2009, 14:51 BST
I'm already figuring that SSB won't be out next week either since Nintendo will not want to overshadow the 100th Wiiware game. Hopefully the 100th game with be Icarian or Contra Rebirth, and then after the 100th game is released, maybe Nintendo will scale back the WiiWare releases and start giving us more than 1 VC game a week. Not a bad update, but still nothing for me.
32. Aquateen510
29 Jun 2009, 14:53 BST
DAMNIT NINTENDO STOP UPLOADING VC GAMES THAT WE DON'T WANT! >
33. KnucklesSonic8
29 Jun 2009, 14:58 BST
Uhhh... who's "we", exactly? >_>
Anyway, let's hope this new trend of 3 WiiWare titles continues but let's also hope a trend of 2 VC Games per update comes up. I think they're not thinking hard enough as far as what to release and they know that SSB64 is an option but clearly they're saving it for the right time.

I wonder if WiiWare will scale back after game#100. Shame I'll have to wait 3 weeks to find out due to going on holiday. Hard to believe we're nearly at 100. I remember the early days of Reggie bragging there were a whole 50 titles in development.
Anyway, what do people think WiiWare#99 will be? I'm going to say NyxQuest (though the ESRB still calls it Icarian) though I think Bust a Move is a possibility. Why? Both those games it seems most WiiWare rated about the same time as them is out now.
Still, knowing Nintendo it'll be something nobody expected and more importantly...wanted
37. KnucklesSonic8
29 Jun 2009, 15:42 BST
I'm predicting NyxQuest, Puzzle Bobble or Bit Boy.
38. LEGEND MARIOID

39. KDR_11k
29 Jun 2009, 15:48 BST

29 Jun 2009, 18:33 BST
@WarioFan63 Uh no...The Reccomended Game list on the Front Page doesnt even always list EVERYTHING that came out that Monday so it doesn't really matter.
Here in Europe from what I remember one spot is always held by the internet channel and the other World of Goo. That might have changed recently. What I'm saying is in some regions Nintendo doesn't use the full front page anyway so the front page isn't nesicarily what is holding back releases.
60. Darknyht
29 Jun 2009, 18:33 BST
Since I seem to play the DS more often these days, I wish they would get over this puzzle kick they seem to be on. Puzzles are fun, but there are other genres that need some DSiware love.

I would get Water Warfare, but I have a bad feeling it won't be a popular game that people are going to get which is a crying shame. With that, I might not bother if there is hardly anyone here going to get it since its main target niche is the online multi-player.

Only a few months after Eat Lead jokingly introduces the concept of a water gun FPS, somebody actually goes and makes one. It's a CRAAAAAZY world... I might give it a shot, though, if enough of my favorite NLife friends download it.
My Shop Channel intro page always recommends Super Mario Bros. 3, World of Goo, and two new releases. As such, I ignore that page, because it's absolutely useless to me.
Today's VC is uninteresting to me, but since Twilight Crow was looking forward to it for so long, I'm happy for her.

I would also have to agree it is a decent week. I am really tempted to buy Water Warfare the only online shooter I've played is 007 Nightfire for the PC XD. Anyway I have a few things I have to buy first. I think I am going to play SSB on the 64 tonight though because having the cartridge means no waiting XP. I just hope some day in the future I don't know when we get Metal Warriors.

I have a quick question about Water Warfare:
Is the online pretty populated? How many players per match do you average if you just play worldwide matches? What modes are most playing? I am interested in this but I'm not sure if I'm gonna get it yet because I want to have a fun online shooter (or in this case "soaker") for the Wii. I'm on the fence about it...but if online is populated enough I'll probably pick it up ;D

I have another Water Warfare question, actually, although I expect the answer is "no."
Does it have WiiSpeak support? I doubt I'll bother with it if it doesn't, because I am systematically adverse to online multiplayer in which you cannot converse with opponents and/or teammates.

You can select some predetermined phrases and bind them to the d-pad but that's it.

mediocre(sp?) update.
Not a big fan of the Fantasy Zone series.
I'll be waiting for the Water Warfare review.

That's what I figured. Not interested, then.
@donth8theplaya69: The Water Warfare review is already up, y'know. The game released in Europe last week, so the review was ready just in time for the North American release.

Got back from church camp 30 minutes ago. So I had no idea what came to the VC while I was gone. I had a dream Monday night that Super Smash Bros came to the VC. You could pick between the US version and the Japanese version. Much to my suprise when I checked the shop channel, I said "Wow. This is the game they gave us while I was gone?"
