Nintendo's confirms Konami title as a Q3 release
Wow, things sure move quickly in the world of WiiWare.
We've only just heard the awesome news that Konami's new Castlevania is in the works, and now Nintendo's own release list has confirmed that the game is going to be with us sooner than expected - this month, in fact.
Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth is a Q3 game, according to The Big N. We're in Q3 right now - in fact, poor old Q3 only has two more weeks to go before we enter Q4.
Using our finely-tuned powers of deduction, that means we'll be whipping it up with the Belmonts any day now. Let's just hope it's better than the game it takes its name from.

I heard today that this might show up soon, although I was a bit skeptical given we just found out about it. And let's hope it's more like Belmont's Revenge and not the first Castlevania: The Adventure.

Wow, now that was unexpected! This is fantastic news! It would be really nice if we could see some screenshots of this game; any idea as to when that might happen?

Nope, once you posted this news item, I was sold. This guy earlier today emailed me and said he heard it was possibly coming this month, but it seemed crazy to me. I guess he was right.
And as soon as we get shots of the game in action, you guys will be the first to know. Okay, maybe the second.

Holy crap that was fast! I can hardly wait! When a vampire comes along you must whip it. Whip it good. Now if Konami would get Rondo of blood out on the American VC by Halloween I'll be leaping with joy. I wouldn't want to get my hopes up though.

Perhaps Konami have realised from the popularity and the sales of Contra ReBirth, that there is a massive retro market with an hungry appetite for these new editions of their classic franchises. Our pounds and dollars may have spoken, they may have even prioritised us as a market. This will hopefully mean that we no longer have to wait so long after the Japanese release for further 'ReBirth' editions (16 bit Western release lags were no fun at all, in fact they were literally a drag!)
This is great news all around, I can not wait to play it and I also can't wait to see the first release screen shots. Oooooh, the anticipation.
Konami have quickly become my retro gaming WiWare "publisher of choice".

Konami, we love you.
This is great. I would have said Hudson were the best on WiiWare before but seeing that they're owned by Konami, I can easily say Konami are the best. Gradius, Contra, Castlevania and Frogger. I wonder what's next after this, although I seriously need more money. The last few games I've bought were from star point conversions and that can takes ages to get enough.

Dude. Pretty sure I'm more excited about this right now than I am Bit.Trip Void. And that is supposedly shortly on the way too. And Cave Story. And LostWinds 2.
So much awesome coming to WiiWare. Really looking forward to seeing what Konami does with this 8-bit Castlevania reboot.

Impressive how fast they're churning these out... Although I guess technically Gradius ReBirth wouldn't be a "new" game per se. Still though, what's next one might wonder... Salamander? Twinbee? Goemon? Metal Gear? Or perhaps, if I'm allowed to hope, a new Axelay?

Metal Gear should be next. But then Hideo Kojima would probably not want it to be done and it would annoy all the PS3 Metal Gear fanboys. A new Goemon would be good too.

100% agree with Goemon. I'd like to see a new Twin Bee game, and a new version of Parodius. An updated version of Axelay wouldn't hurt, either.

I am repeating myself on this, and I am completely with @Djungelurban and @Damo , but 'Axelay ReBirth' makes absolute sense. Especially when when you consider its constant action, spectacular bosses, the switch between horizontal/vertical viewpoints and off course the "wrap around the world", rolly, scrolly mode 7.
I am still shouting for 'Sunset Riders ReBirth'. It had a colour packed Western setting, plus truly funny character design and dialogue. Fact is, any cowboy that heads into a gunfight in yellow trousers, a pink hat, pink holster and pink neckerchief, just like Steve, must be absolutely, no nonsense nails. lol.

I wonder if this will be the same Castlevania Adventure I hated with Super Nintendo controls. Sort of like how Super Castlevania was basically a reboot of Castlevania.

Yeah, Goemon Rebirth would be fantastic! Eh, if it´s a follow up to the SNES games, not the NES one
Konami has such great IP:s, Axelay, Twinbee... good stuff.

I'm guessing is show up around Halloween. I saw Frogger Returns (should have called it Frogger Rebirth) is also coming out which is great to see as well.

I hope it's a side scroller. Some games are best from the original first games. The NES series of Castlevania and the DS version all side scrollers were fun. Another games I prefer as a side scroller is Metroid. Super Metroid was a lot of fun. There's nothing wrong with "old school" games. They just need to sit down and make some original stories and graphics.

Wait, isn't WiiWare limited to one game per publisher per month? They already released Contra Rebirth this month, right?

It better have more than 5 stages. I still liked Gradius and Contra rebirth but seriously Konami only 5 stages? Come on. Even some Nes games had more than that.
26. Bass X0
16 Sep 2009, 13:32 BST
And Contra Rebirth's stages weren't exactly long either.
Hey, I just thought - its probably a remake of The Adventure because that game was short and they didn't want to disrupt the overall Castlevania timeline by making a sidestory or inserting a new Belmont or whatever. By basing it upon The Adventure, it allows them to keep the game short and in continuity without any complaints. Belmont's Revenge would be better but has quite large stages.

@BassX0- Yeah, Metal Gear would be a cool one to do. We need the nes ones on vc, now that I think about it.

Q3 2009? or Q3 2010? ...you sure?
29. ReZon

@Pawtrick - this report comes from NOA's holiday 2009 lineup. So Q3 2009 for NA, and Q1 2010 for Euro.

That can't be right... there were 9 yet to be released WiiWare titles slated for Q3 on that list and with only two weeks left of this years third quarter, seeing the release of that many titles, the likes of which include a handful of high profile games, is ludicrous. I think Q3 might be referring to Nintendo's fiscal year, which actually ends with March, thus making the months of Oct, Nov and Dec Q3. Sorry to break that to you all. I think an October release of Castlevania is very likely however, so that's still not that far off.

This will likely be the yearly Castlevania instead of Rondo, but I guess that's okay. I'll gladly take a new old-school Castlevania (even if it may be a remake of a game I hardly played).

@NintendoBrad
Unless Nintendo and Konami are planning some kind of Castlevania themed month in October, which would kick serious you know what. Unlikely, I know, but I've seen stranger things happen. Also, didn't we already get a Castlevania game this year? ^^' (Dracula's Curse)

@35
That is true, the U.S. did get Castlevania 3 near the beginning of the year, (I believe it was January or February), although Europe got it first last year. I'm stretching it a bit by calling it a yearly thing, but since Super CV 4 we've had at least one Castlevania every year. Rondo is long overdue, though. :/

@Sushie "Here's to hoping it doesn't SUCK! (get it, suck, like a VAMPIRE?)".
Cheers, your comment 36 is fine tuned to my daft sense of humour.
Ha, ha if this one sucks I'll fly straight over to Konami's Japan offices and exclaim "Castlevania ReBirth sucks Konami......you can just go and bite me!", gggrrrroooooaaaaannnnnnn. lol.
Except, I wouldn't really say that! I haver never even flown to Japan and if I ever met anyone from Konami I would really mumble "pleased to meet you Mr Konami, sir.... I am a huuuuuge fan of Contra ReBirth, Ms Konami, ma'am" and "would you please sign my Super Famicom Contra Spirits box....", ending with "I'm not worthy!", etc, etc.

YES! It absolutely CAN't be bad, it's goddamn Konami and their Castlevania debut on the WiiWare. Castlevania game mechanics have been crystallized ovar the last years, and they could easily make it awesome. RIGHT?
If this sucks...

Next Konami Wiiware Rebirth title is gonna be Salamander Rebirth IMHO. They've already registered the trademark, i read about this some time ago. That being said i'd love to see a Goemon Rebirth in the style of the first for SNES (i guess it would be hoping for too much to expect one like those released later)
@Link47 : The original of Castlevania the Adventure only had 4 stages :awesome: ! So i guess the Rebirth will have the same amount ? I hope not of course but seeing what Konami's done with previous Rebirth titles i wouldn't get my hopes too high.
