Flowers, explosions and gnomes, oh my!

Aussie developers Nocturnal Entertainment have announced that their WiiWare title Flowerworks is just about ready to drop after 18 month in development.

No date or window was given for the release, but we've got a whole slew of new screens for you to check out.

Flowerworks is an adventure that puts you in the role of a confused alien with no self-confidence on a mysterious, dull planet. So she grows Flowerworks, a combination of, you guessed it, flowers and fireworks.

Check out the full press release below and look for our full review when the game is released.

Melbourne, Australia - Saturday, 12 September 2009 - Nocturnal is proud to announce the upcoming release of Flowerworks® for the WiiWare™ service on Wii™ system.

Under development for more than 18 months, Flowerworks combines flowers and fireworks in a groundbreaking action-adventure game, designed from the ground-up for Wii.

In Flowerworks, the player takes the role of Follie – a friendly (but confused!) alien who crash lands on the mysterious planet Elilia, whilst transporting a cargo of Flowerworks seeds to her Aunty.

As Follie ventures away from the wreckage of her ship, she finds the planet to be unacceptably lacklustre and her self-confidence is shattered! She must explore the planet, rebuild her confidence, and unravel the mysteries of Elilia. By recovering her seeds and growing Flowerworks, she can transform the planet from drab to fab!

Flowerworks is a child friendly, pick-up-and-play title that will appeal to the entire family. The game is designed around the strengths of the Wii.

@Blaze: Thanks for the video link! The game looks more arcadey than I would have thought from the description. I really like the designs, but I think it remains to be seen whether or not the gameplay is any good.

The concept kind of sounds like some sort of cross between Pikmin and de Blob.

Watching the video though... Okay, WTF am I looking at here? It's some sort of weird shooty madness and I can't quite tell what... shrugs

And then the screenshots also show some sort of overhead world map?
