No rest for Commander Video.
We can all stop guessing about cryptic images for what Gaijin Games has in store for the third installment of Commander Video's journey through the BIT.TRIP saga, as that teaser site has finally put out.
Titled BIT.TRIP VOID, the latest entry has you navigating a black hole of adjustable size as you try to intercept other black dots and stay away from presumably nasty, nasty white ones, which strikes of Ikaruga somehow.
VOID promises 4-player local co-op, big bosses and "hyper-realistic retro cutscenes." Chiptuner Nullsleep will guest star, but we're not certain if he's doing all the tracks or just contributing. Oh, and mid-level checkpoints are in, which should allow us all to keep whatever hair we have on our heads after BEAT and CORE; then again, looking at the devilish patterns you'll need to navigate, you might want to invest in some Rogaine soon. Gaijin is also courteous enough to include nunchuck and Classic Controller support, just in case the Wiimote alone doesn't pack enough oomph going through your TV.
Aksys Games, a publisher of interactive entertainment software, is proud to announce the next evolution in CommanderVideo’s journey, BIT.TRIP VOID! Developed exclusively for WiiWare™ by the crazy brains at Gaijin Games, BIT.TRIP VOID is the next entry in the critically acclaimed retro-arcade BIT.TRIP series which follows CommanderVideo on his epic journey from the ethereal to the corporeal, and beyond...
THE VOID AWAITS…
BIT.TRIP VOID is a synesthetic exploration of rhythm and music as they pertain to our everyday lives and moods. In a control scheme brand new to the series, yet wholly familiar to gamers, the player is given complete freedom to move about the screen wherever they desire, interacting with the music in brand new ways. The classic gameplay aesthetic remains, as color—and the absence of color—are explored to the fullest.
Trip out in up to 4-player co-op and get lost in the beat with your friends! See if you can survive the onslaught of Beats and further your own BIT.TRIP.
“BIT.TRIP VOID completes the first chapter in CommanderVideo's journey with a synesthetic exploration of mind/beat interaction. But as one chapter ends, another begins…” states Alex Neuse, Designer, Gaijin Games. “We hope that you find this game as beautiful as we do, and we can't wait to make another one for you. Keep rockin'!”

Nowai! Someone called the name, I forget who. And woah, that trailer is crazy. I like the idea, and it looks like they have IR control in it.

Looks insane in the later parts of the video. Can't wait to try it out. And I'm pretty sure the name was given away with the URL of the site.

Interesting. This game has a very different feel from the previous two. Not that I mind. It definitely helps that the game is not trying to be the same game over and over. I'm just curious what game this was inspired by.

Looks a bit like a cross between Bubbles and Ikaruga with just a hint of Ladybug.

The backgrounds don't look as cluttered to me, which was a major pain for the first two games for me. Who knows, maybe I just need to eat more carrots or something.

A lot of good new Wiiware games are being announced. First, Lostwinds, then Bomberman, and now Bit. Trip.

Wow, this looks really awesome but why does it say COMMING SOON at the end of the video; is that a typo or was it misspelled on purpose?

I got Beat and it's great but found it too difficult to try Core too. Mid-level checkpoints might just make the difference this time.

looks a lot like the flash game squares. I liked the backgrounds of the previous games this one looks too minimalistic. still its is more bit.trip and they also seem to give us great, impossibly hard gameplay, and great catchy music so I'm still looking forward to it.

this game doesnt seem music based at all, i watched the video a few times and it doesnt seem to add any aditional sound when the beat hits the circle. Also it feels wierd that there are only black and white beats, and in multiplayer will the other players be the same color or not, considering this appears to only have 2 colors.

@zranoll:
"this game doesnt seem music based at all, i watched the video a few times and it doesnt seem to add any aditional sound when the beat hits the circle."
You MAY want to chalk that up to the fact that though there are dozens of cuts in the video, the music is never interrupted, thereby suggesting that you're not actually hearing game audio.
It's just edited into a package with music laid over top of it.
I can guarantee it's music-based; all six of the games will be.
The vid looks insane. Seems like a heck of a leap forward from Core...very excited about this.

^ that does make more sense, hopefully we can get a video of maybe a 10 second interval with the ingame music shortly

Great concept, definitely a heck of a leap from Core. I have to wonder how it'll work musically, but I'm sure it will. The one thing that stands out though is the lack of color. One of the big draws of the first two for me was the vibrant color. Black and white is obviously a key element of the design, but I wonder if it'll feel the same. I'm sure seeing it on my TV I'll be much more impressed, though, and either way this already looks too good to disappoint in any possible way!
Very glad to see 4P co-op is back. We missed you in Core.

Is it IR and do you make the blob bigger and samller by moving the 'mote further and away from the screen?
Pro tip - go to photo channel, point at screen and push down on d-pad, then move closer and further to screen to see what I mean.
36. Turkey Brutus
03 Sep 2009, 03:00 BST
I was wondering about IR, too, but watching the way the circle moves, I'm pretty sure it's the joystick on the nunchuk. We'll see though, it could easily be IR with some good "smoothing" to prevent the jerkiness you get with a straight cursor.
I'm really impressed by this series so far. Wonder what GG's going to do when it's done.

This video looks really good. However, I still need to beat the last level in Beat, and need to buy Core. However, I bet this is going to be a great game, and I'm excited to play it.
