Following on from Baseball and Golf, the Game Boy sports trend continues with this week's Virtual Console release, while WiiWare gets some futuristic shooting action while DSiWare gets medical problems and minesweeping. The Nintendo Download: always varied.
3DS Virtual Console
Side Pocket (Game Boy, G-Mode, $2.99) — Europe received catboy puzzler Catrap today while North America relaxes with some pool hall hustling action. We'll pocket a review soon.
WiiWare
Horizon Riders (Sabarasa, 800pts) — An on-rails blaster that uses the Balance Board and Wii Zapper, imagine playing Sin & Punishment: Star Successor with a robot and you might be in the right ballpark. We'll see if that's an accurate assumption with our upcoming review.
WiiWare Demo
Horizon Riders — You can try before you buy with a limited demo of Horizon Riders available to download from today.
DSiWare
Simply Minesweeper (Engine Software, 200pts) — Does what it says on the tin: sweep for mines. For further details, refer to our Simply Minesweeper review.
House, M.D. - Episode 3: Skull and Bones (Legacy Interactive, 800pts) — The third downloadable instalment in Legacy's House series, this episode starts with a fraternity hazing gone wrong. Look for our upcoming review strutting around in a toga in the near future.
What will you be picking up this week?

Now side pocket was a pretty good game on the nes but never played this version. Will wait for a review on this one!
hey when will clay fighter be out. its been a year
I was expecting Catrap. Oh well looks like another lousy week for us.
Still no love for Wii VC despite the fact the Wii hasn't died just yet.
they should release Side pocket for the Wii VC and the 3DS VC at the same time. But that is asking too much
Side Pockets my butt! I'd rather play Catrap.
Wut?
What? None of you guys are excited for the new DR. House episode?!!?!?!!!
Side Pocket depending on impressions. I think I remember playing this on GB way back when.
Garbage as usual
Wow, some of you people can get very negative over trivial things like this.
Horizon Riders looks like it could interest me. To my regret, the interesting games only appear in the american Wii-Shop. I think I should move to America.
Damn Wii's VC is officially dead for weeks now. You think with Lufia and Mega Man X2 being ESRB rated that we see their release on VC by now but here we got nothing.
Meh
Weak...
With all the 'another lousy' week comments I can only presume that all of those people missed last weeks offerings.
Personally I have little interest in the Wii VC, WiiWare or DSiWare now as my Wii's SD card is full and my 3DS's internal memory is full; so all I'm buying now are eShop games.
Looks like everything is back to normal then...
mfw nothing for me this week:
Side Pocket, eh? I'll see if there are any reviews available, but I don't imagine I'll end up buying that.
Why are you guys being so negative? You may not have got catrap like us but Horizon riders looks better than anything we got this week. I hope that comes to EU soon.
Aw, how disappointing. I thought last week was an indication that it would start getting better.
Garbage as usual
The Game Boy actually has very few titles you would consider not to be garbage or 'meh'.
I thought last week was an indication that it would start getting better.
Side Pocket had to be released at some time.
Awww...I was really hoping for Catrap today It BETTER come out next week!
Nintendo really knows what their fans want :/
Well I was hoping for Cattrap but oh well. Nothing for me this week but after such a good week last week with SML2 and Four Swords I guess I cant complain. Not surprised that we dont see a Wii VC game, I pretty much gave up on them releasing a Wii VC game though.
Can never have to many pool games!
I don't know whether you guys have finally figured out how to grow money trees outside of Animal Crossing or what, but I don't have the money to buy games every week. I'm glad Nintendo gives me time to save up for the must-haves by releasing the not-so-must-haves.
Side Pocket's also on Data East Arcade Classics for the Wii. It's not horrible, but it's one of the weaker games on the compilation.
I think I'll save and wait for a 3D, more modern Pool game.
Was it too much to get Metroid 2?
noooooo!!! cut the rope is out the 20th!!!!!!
Do people actually like pool games? I love playing billiards for real but playing it in video game form seems so pointless. Where's the fun in that?
Horizon Riders looks cool though. Too bad my TV crapped out on me and I can't play my Wii at the moment. Hope the demo sticks around.
Man, weak-sauced gruel is all we get once again. Where's the SNES & N64 Virtual Console games?! Or at least Gameboy Color games instead of this black & white crap.
Don't forget there's a new Nintendo Show 3D! I guess they only have one episode on the first Thursday of each month, unlike Nintendo Week on the Wii, which has a new episode almost every week (hence the name). Nothing too interesting to download this week.
Meh.
Let's face it. Nintendo abandoned the Wii's VC.
At least we get NS3D ep 2 and a wiiware demo!
Everything else is garbage
maybe not the House ep 3
I have lost all faith. Nintendo has abandoned us.
I downloaded Side Pocket almost immediately this morning. I was expecting Catrap, but I like this, too. I remember playing it fondly as a kid on my GameBoy It's still just as fun.
Horizon Riders Demo and maybe Side Pocket.
I played the Horizen Riders Demo, and i though it was okay, the controls could have been better because without the balance board you pretty much have to move your character by tilting the Wii-remote but jump by flicking it too, Both which do notihng but mess up your aim when your trying to shoot enemies, Also you switch between weapons using the nunchuck's joystick.(which should have been used to move your character). i was really impressed with the boss fight in the demo too, it had alot diversity in attacks and required a bit of weapon stratagy, but the movement controls made the fight harder than it already was, overall if you can get used to the akward controls(without the balance board) its a pretty fun game.
@pizzacore, Jazzy Billiards Professional is on the 3DS download service in Japan. I can't imagine that not getting a worldwide release, so that'll probably be your best bet.
Nothing for me. I want to save my last 800 points for X2, but I guess I'll just have to decide between escapeVector, & Mega Man(1).
@Adamant Is it in 3D? If then, I may just be saving my money for that. Thanks for telling me, I was just about to pick up Side Pocket.
Where's my PROTOCOL?!?!
@BieberGirl14 Hello BG14. Or should i say @Kainard? i figured it out!
With so much negative comments, it seems as if nobody has bothered to take a look at Horizon Riders. Looks pretty cool to me.
And just like @Mully said, I don't have money to buy games every week, so I'm kinda glad Nintendo gives us down time so we can play the games that still need beating / completion and save up for the must-haves.
Well to be fair, just because a game comes out that you want doesn't necessarily mean that everyone else wants it. I'll have to say this download is crap
It's sad that Nintendo even allows such shovelware as these house games on their shop. It's also sad that said shovelware was allowed to use the house trademark! I'm having flashbacks to zelda cdi...
Somebody finally made a Green Goblin hoverboard game using the balance board? About time.
A new game with a day 1 demo has me shaking my head in disbelief. Add this to the free Zelda DS game (my 6 yr. old won't stop playing it) and it's like Nintendo got a clue. Maybe there's hope for the WiiU online after all.
I just tried Horizon Riders and didn't really like it. I guess it was designed with the balance board in mind, but there should have been an option to move your character with the control stick. The remote-tilting mechanism barely worked in Super Mario Galaxy and it works even less here.
And just like @Mully said, I don't have money to buy games every week, so I'm kinda glad Nintendo gives us down time so we can play the games that still need beating / completion and save up for the must-haves.
Good games can be released and you don't have to download it. We're all at different places in when and how often we buy games. You personally may not be ready to download a new game so soon but someone else may be waiting for a particular game.
The Wii shop is officially dead. One launch per week isn´t a business.
@pizzacore, yes, it's in 3D. The full name is "ARC STYLE: Jazzy BILLIARDS 3D Professional", I was just too lazy to type it all out
