Nintendo of America was tweaking its official website early yesterday (16th February), and it transpires it was preparation for launching a new My Nintendo Store. It's a big step up on the region's previous offering and is now similar to the equivalent in the UK, as one example.
You can see what it has to offer at the My Nintendo Store Official Site, which blends a broad catalogue of new products along with some of the My Nintendo Rewards that are claimed with points. Like some other regional stores it offers a relatively decent range, including both physical and digital games, merchandise and some 'store exclusives' that include clothing. In terms of the nitty gritty it offers free shipping if you spend over $50, and a current offer is a range of first-party physical games reduced to $39.99.
It's the most substantial official online store Nintendo's offered in North America to date; previously it was largely limited to My Nintendo Rewards on one site, and a limited range of accessories and/or refurbished products on a little-advertised sub-site. In this case the full store is a key tab on the company's official pages.
Take a look and let us know what you think; are any of you planning to do some shopping on this North American My Nintendo Store?

Why is this still so bad in mainland Europe?
IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME
Nintendo trying to learn what this “internet” is all about
@sanderev Weirdly this is one thing were the UK is better off, in many ways this North American store mimics the UK equivalent. But yeah, not sure why some other countries are lagging behind.
The OLED models are in stock again. I just picked one up.
I just want the Switch N64 controller. And not have to sell a kidney to get one.
God gosh golly FINALLY!!!
And they still won't allow me to buy N64 controllers smh
I would like to be able to buy the Animal Crossing controllers please. Just as Japan was able to.
HATE is what I feel for the new store.
It removed WiiU, making it much harder to buy those games. They did it the same day they announced that shop closing, which means for those of us who were loyal to Nintendo when the world turned its back on them during the WiiU era, we now we'll have a harder time buying WiiU games before the money grubbing decision to shut down the WiiU store.
The new website is a kick to the teeth to loyal fans.
That Nintendo didn't care enough to even think about the timing with the WiiU removal shows how little they currently care about anything but money.
I HATE that the new store launched yesterday. Nintendo should be ashamed.
They had taken down the MyNintendo rewards store, then brought it back for about a month or so, and then took it down again.
I was really hoping that with the new storefront, they would have a better selection of items to spend Platinum Points on, but looks like the link still goes to an 'Error' page. That big jar is overflowing, and I need something to spend these points on thats not a jpeg.
Wish the UK one would tweak theirs so that it recognised any of my cards/paypal/gpay
Nintendo store - "Free shipping over $50"
Also Nintendo store - games on sale for $39.99
Don't know why they just don't do online sales from the Nintendo NYC store website. Nintendo is so weird.
https://www.nintendonyc.com/
And of course, it doesn't include Mexico, why am I even surprised? That's a granted when it comes to these kind of things from Nintendo.
I hate that most of the apparel is only available in tiny sizes.
Also that the N64 controller is sold out. But I suppose I should have expected that.
@sanderev You guys still got those awesome N64 posters though. We still don't
I just bought a Winter Tom Nook from them, yesterday. Had to buy either a Boo Plush OR A LEGO Super Mario Power-Up pack to qualify for Free Shipping. I remember buying Winter Isabelle from the Nintendo Store, and I loved it because she is so super soft, even without her Winter clothes on! It's all in how stuffed or moderately stuffed they can be, where you would get that peak softness that makes any Build-A-Bear product... perfect. I also spent 600 Platinum Points on a Switch Game Card Case. I wish we had the option to buy replacement game box covers for games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The printout I have doesn't have the same oomph.
@Desrever They migrated My Nintendo items to the main site, check here https://www.nintendo.com/store/exclusives/
@GannonBanned They find it scary. They only discovered Youtube a few years ago. Wait until someone tells them about "Social media".
Eh, I like the old system of (in terms of physical My Nintendo rewards) redeeming points for codes to use in the store. That way I could just sit on the codes 'til I was able to use them all while also ensuring that I get the reward I want.
I am in the uk and find the website is alright, but buying stuff from the shop is not so good. They cancelled my pre order of legends a few days before release and didn't even bother to tell me they had done it. Also had a couple of annoying problems with them which when contacting them they were most unhelpful.
Gooooooooood.
@ThomasBW84 wish NoA would mimic the steelbook preorder bonuses 😓
@tee-cup Aha! So they did! I appreciate the heads up
The US website has undergone a very nice makeover honestly! I'm enjoying the new UX
A "big step up" and now "equivalent to the UK store" makes me dread to wonder what they had before.
The UK store is awful. It has tons of stuff to buy, sure. Lots of cool bits and bobs and pre order bonuses. But as soon as you have an issue with an order, want to cancel something, want to return something, want to change your payment details on a pre order, well you just hit a brick wall with the Customer Service. It sucks and I hate that they rolled My Nintendo into it. Makes ordering the cool NSO controllers a nerve wracking experience.
@k8sMum me too, has it been relisted on the store? Because last time I checked it wasn't even on the store at all.
And still no Pikmin t-shirt…
Putting a decent store on the Nintendo app would also be good.
@Danrenfroe2016
Just says it's sold out. "This item is currently unavailable. Please check back soon."
It would be nice to at least have some sort of timeline for when it will be available. If it will.
@rjejr
"Nintendo is so weird."
Ok, you win the understatement of the year award!
@GannonBanned Merchandising guy: "So, they say the internet is essentially a series of tubes..."
Mario: "Go on."
@ChickenJoe I am duty bound to report I cracked up at this
@ChickenJoe "They have the Internet on computers, now."
@ralphdibny it's crap isn't it, I had a bunch of orders fail after they did the switch over from the old Nintendo Store because their systems just point blank refused to accept my address... it was so frustrating and customer service just said there was nothing they could do, utterly utterly crap.
Your comment made me go and check to see if I could update my account with the right address and while I can now get my flat number on there for some reason I can't add my new bank card to my payment methods after my old one expired, get a bloody grip of yourself Nintendo!
@Otoemetry it is a completely frustrating experience. I did change my bank card on it last year. I'm trying to remember what I did, I Might have clicked edit on the existing card as opposed to creating a new one.
I wish they'd take PayPal but I imagine they'd be scared of all the chargebacks they get.
I also noted that they display like a 97% positive rating from a website called Revolut or something. I looked up the company and apparently they don't let you write poor reviews. The store's equivalent rating on Trustpilot is incredibly low. It's just mad how obvious it is that they are rubbish and also know it enough that they have to use a dodgy review website to hide it
@ralphdibny oh my god that's outrageous! I know the staff were obviously extremely demoralised when I spoke with them because they'd had to tell so many people there was nothing they could do, it's just so ridiculous for a company the size of Nintendo (especially one whose roots are in toy making) to be unable to adequately meet demand. There's being conservative in your estimates and then there's whatever Nintendo is doing!
It's all greed at the end of the day, they had a fully functioning service run by The Hut Group which was able to fulfill preorders like any other online shop but because Nintendo wanted a bigger piece of the pie we now have this awful awful service in its place.
@Otoemetry to be honest with you, I thought it was still run by The Hut Group, just without its branding. I thought both stores were terrible and anything HutGroup related is awful too (Zavvi etc). I was under the impression that they shared customer service between the brands and my experience with them hasn't changed since the switchover. I have had negative (and fairly similar) experiences with the old Nintendo Store, the My Nintendo Store and Zavvi.
As far as I know, The Hut Group have nothing to do with the running of the my Nintendo store. I'm sure I read somewhere that the contract came to an end and Nintendo decided not to renew their services, it was in some dry business article I think.
Totally agree with you about zavvi they're atrocious and need firing into the sun, but I never experienced the issues I had with zavvi with any of the huge number of orders I had with The Hut Group run Nintendo store UK. I certainly never had issue with any of the really basic stuff like addresses and card details, which is pretty flipping important for an online shop!
