One of the games we're most excited for this month is Shin chan: Me And The Professor On Summer Vacation – The Endless Seven-Day Journey — yes, the title really is that long. The game is inspired by the My Summer Vacation series and has been developed by the same team, Millennium Kitchen.
Originally released in Japan last year, we didn't expect we'd ever see it in the West. But we were pleasantly surprised a few months ago when publisher Neos Corporation revealed the game would be coming out in English this summer! One of the biggest reasons we were surprised is that none of the My Summer Vacation games made their way over to the West, but we still wanted to celebrate the upcoming Shin-Chan game's release by playing one of Millennium Kitchen's games. And, so, we did.
The lovely Felix is today taking a look at the cute 3DS favourite, Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale. Created by Kaz Ayabe, who worked on the My Summer Vacation series, this short, charming adventure has captured Felix's imagination and passion. In preparation for Shin chan, he's taking a look at Attack of the Friday Monsters! and the whole of Millenium Kitchen's output. Shh, those other games are Sony releases but don't tell anyone.

One other reason we want to tell you about Attack of the Friday Monsters! is that this game could be lost to time very soon what with the impending 3DS and Wii U eShop closures. So if you like what you see here, head on over to the eShop and grab it — though you can no longer make purchases using a credit card, if your Nintendo Network ID (used on your Switch) is linked with your 3DS and Wii U accounts, then the funds are shared!
Check out the video below, and let us know if you're excited about Shin chan's upcoming game, and whether you've played Attack of the Friday Monsters! in the comments!

I've always been fascinated by this one: a game that has both the biggest and smallest stakes, all at the same time. I've been heavily wrapped up in Japanese culture as of late between the recent entries for both Pokemon and Ace Attorney so I would love to play it someday if it ever got a Switch port or something like that. Then again, with the company that publishes it being Level-5, maybe I shouldn't be getting my hopes up in that regard.....
Attack of the Friday Monsters... now that's a game I haven't heard in a long time...
Never got around playing it, but the games atmosphere looks so good. I definitely have to play it sometime and of course I'll get the new Switch game. It looks soo good and chill.
Saying good bye to the previous generation has been difficult. There are so many great titles on the 3DS and Wii U that haven’t been ported.
Attack of the Friday Monsters is highly recommended if one likes walking slice of life sims (with a simple rock-paper-scissors card game thrown in), 1970s Japanese culture, and a touch of science fiction. It's a charming game and is one of my favorite 3DS eShop titles.
If you only have room for one of Level-5's Guild titles, this is top of my list.
AOTFM is excellent. Really captures the feeling of being of a certain age and wandering around town with your friends. I can only imagine the nostalgia bomb this was for Japanese gamers who grew up in the 70s. Such a magical experience.
I loved this back when I played it and had been hoping for a Switch remaster for years. That’s still unlikely but getting Shin-Chan looks to be even better!
Loved every second of it.
Its normal but special un/real atmosphere.
And the card game can get quite tricky and addictive.
Remember it puts a smile on my face
And “The starship Damrey” too, although it was a bit more… rough. But loved the theme.
What a cracking video!
I wasn’t aware of Shin-chan, but as I absolutely loved the utterly delightful Attack of the Friday Monsters, I’ll definitely be getting it in August.
Doran Doran!
Good point. I absolutely love the look of the game, might be time to dust off the 3DS.
I've completed it too many times to count and have a 100% file! Looking forward to the new Shin Chan game they're releasing soon
Note: You can go straight to Nintendo's website, search for the game, buy it there with your credit card or paypal, and it will automagically show up on your linked 3DS. It's the best way to buy 3DS games in this post-points world. (Unfortunately, does not work for WiiU.)
If you're into it, more power to ya, but these just don't look interesting to me.
Honestly most of the Guild games are top notch. I downloaded and played most of them back in the day. Attack of the Friday Monsters is really good though.
It's so funny that you guys posted about this because I was recently thinking about this game so odd coincidence
got the game a long time ago when it was on sale also has other games that can be linked to unlock content should let people know about those as well
@Pak-Man If you have linked your Nintendo Network ID (the one you use on your Wii U) with your Nintendo Account and enabled to share the balance it should work for Wii U games as well (at least it does work for me)…
The only things you can’t buy using the website are DLCs and DSiWare on the 3DS eShop (I had to redeem a gift card to buy those)
For anyone concerned that "Attack of the Friday Monsters" leans too heavily into a uniquely Japanese perspective... as an old western guy, it still felt EXACTLY like my childhood before mobile phones and helicopter parenting.
A strong recommendation to anyone with 3DS access.
Together with Liberation Maiden, in some regards the exact opposite of this game, this is probably my favourite of the "Guild" games by published by Level 5. There were some other great ones among them, and I don't recall any of them being BAD, but I won't forget about this one's charm, it's probably in my top 5 3ds eshop titles, if I took the time to make one. And it's still exclusive to it, and will soon be gone, so I'd probably move it up some spots (Steamworld Heist would be above it if it wasn't readily available on others platforms, that's one I know without even looking at what's on the 3ds eshop and not physically released on the platform)
Gotta appreciate all the hidden gems that Level-5 made on the 3DS
Great article and good video by Felix as well. This inspired me to go back and play through Attack of The Friday Monsters, I really enjoyed it. It’s a great little game to play on a lazy Sunday afternoon with a nice cup of coffee
Get it while you can it's almost gone. Really good play
