One of the returning characters in the upcoming release Fire Emblem Engage is Marth. This character originally debuted in 1990 and has made multiple appearances since then even outside of the series. In the new mainline Fire Emblem, Marth returns as a legendary hero.
In the lead-up to the game's Switch release earlier this year, Nintendo has been publishing more information about each of the characters. Here is a closer look at Marth, along with a description:
"The Emblem Marth (VA: Hikaru Midorikawa), also known as the "Emblem of Beginnings" is a hero among heroes who's extremely noble and charismatic. A prince of Altea, from the outrealm continent of Archanea.
"The Emblem Marth is an ace sword-wielder; when characters equip his ring, they're more likely to avoid enemy attacks."
Here's some more footage of the character in motion and in combat alongside the new protagonist Alear:
And here's Nintendo's official story description for Fire Emblem Engage:
"In a war against the Fell Dragon, four kingdoms worked together with heroes from other worlds to seal away this great evil. One thousand years later, this seal has weakened and the Fell Dragon is about to reawaken. As a Divine Dragon, use rich strategies and robust customization to meet your destiny – to collect Emblem Rings scattered across the world and bring peace back to the Continent of Elyos. Summon and fight alongside legendary heroes from past Fire Emblem games, like Marth and Celica, and add their power to yours in this new story. The turn-based, tactical battle system the Fire Emblem series is known for returns with a fresh cast of characters you can customize and Engage with to carefully craft your strategy."
Fire Engage launches on Switch early next year in January. Will you be taking checking it out? Comment down below.

Story wise, is this a case of the actual characters coming from a (or several) parallel dimensions to Elyos, or are they merely the summoned essences of said warriors?
As much as I like playing Fire Emblem Heroes, I'd rather have a NEW Fire Emblem game instead of a console version of FEH.
@MeloMan because he keeps being called “Emblem Marth” I think he might just be a summoned essence
The whole thing with me is I’m excited for this game because they’re showing battles and focusing on that rather than the between-battle/relationship stuff.
That’s got me sold on this entry…
Even when they first announced it, they were showing battle engagements rather than running around an academy talking with NPCs.
Definitely buying this!
Look how they massacred my boy
Bleh, not really a fan of them bringing back the old characters in this way, just make each game be their own thing and keep all the dumb fanservice stuff to the mobile game.
As for the ring system the best feature about it seems to be that its optional as far as I can tell.
Let all the worlds converge! Woo I didn’t look at the video to limit spoilers but I am so beyond excited it feels unreal. Hope it has amiibo support. I need a Lyn amiibo Nintendo!
Marth is my favourite Smash Bros. Melee character. Noble characters are great, especially if they have the charisma or radiance of a prince.
I also believe that it is better, when media does not rely on fanservice.
You know it’s bad when the fan service is the marketing of the game.
Still interesting in the game tho
I dont know about the main character tho, i wish we could customize the character to our own liking.
I struggle to comprehend how one can be ‘extremely noble’ but hey, you learn something new every day.
Classic heroes returning, is this an excuse to rerelease all the FE amiibo and cash in?
I would engage* Marth if you know what I mean wink for he is so galant and strapping and blue of hair. Truly a most
nubilenoble price.*It’s like marrying someone but in the future.
@Dom_31 Looking forward to this. Not sure why people are complaining about fan service, as this seems to be a celebration of the series.
Every/most FE since the 2000s has had the option to summon old characters to use. Not sure why in this case it's getting a reaction.
While I'm definitely down for some new FE, I have to confess that Marth's inclusion doesn't thrill me personally all that much. I realize that he's arguably the franchise's first and most recognized main hero, but remember that up until the GameCube era that fame was limited almost entirely to the Japanese market. For me personally, my introduction to FE was with Path of Radiance (GC) and Radiant Dawn (Wii), so I guess I always gravitated to Ike as the series' template for a main character. For another thing, having Marth and other legacy characters drop into the story in some form has obviously been done before in Fire Emblem, and the tacked-on, fan-service effect those experiences had (thinking of Awakenings on the 3DS in particular) just wasn't that satisfying the way it was handled.
I agree with others here that without a definitive purpose that's essential to the core storyline, these legacy character inclusions are basically fan service that may do more harm than good. It's not such a deal-breaker that it would make me not buy the game, but it does feel a bit like Nintendo not having enough confidence to let this particular game's characters and storyline stand on their own.
I'd absolutely be down for a remastered compilation of Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, by the way. Hopefully Nintendo will make it happen sooner than later.
@Kid_Sickarus That sounds about right. So it's basically "FE Heroes-ing". I guess this is more of that console/mobile market bridging that MK8D/MKT are already doing.
Not really sure what to make of this really. I just know I enjoy Fire Emblem games so I'm willing to give it a chance.
I'm excited for this game. While I liked Three Houses a lot, it's also fantastic having more traditional Fire Emblem games without the Persona-like features.
The focus on bringing back old characters as a major feature means it was probably planned to be a 30th anniversary game. This kind of thing is a rather common way to celebrate a franchise's anniversary (same with bringing over old games to the newest system).
Marth is to fire emblem as vanilla is to ice cream. Roy or Ike should have been the featured "persona" characters.
@Ability-King-KK
I'm sceptical, but also kinda down in they pull it off right. I'd love to see Ike again....or even FE Heroes original characters like Askr, Reginn, or Laevetein.
I mean, as long as the microtransactions are gone. If they added those, I would be straight boycotting the game.
Welcome back? We can’t get rid of him lol.
@AtlanteanMan
Me too. I still have both my original discs and boxes for those games, but I'd love to see them on one cartridge, with clean graphics and new features. (I played through both again this year, and they still hold up).
New game with new characters, world, and story. But because part of the story allows you to bring back older warriors it’s suddenly a mobile game. Okay.
What I want to know is which fire emblem Amiibo does what.
I have to say the animations do look really smooth.
@Dom_31 Fire Emblem Engage was suposed to release in 2020, to celebrate Fire Emblem 30th anniversary acording to Emily Rogers
Dio: you thought this was a regular fire emblem game but it was me, Dio
Alear: Summons stand ability "Altea Blue"!
To be continued.....
Extremely noble, extremely charismatic and EXTREMELY overused
I really don't think these returning lords are going to help this game. They had their story. It also doesn't help that Fire Emblem lords are usually in the same character archetype. Most of them aren't all that different.
I'm also afraid they will go heavy on DLC or even go the gacha direction.
They should just focus on making the new characters as fleshed out as they can be.
Still very sceptical about Engage.
Such a cool mechanic, very interested in this game.
