2023 has been quite the year for Mario, huh? Nintendo's prize plumber has had his own movie, a brand-new 2D platformer and an RPG-make thrown in for good measure. Just to put the icing on the cake, he's now appearing in a handful of Tetris 99 crossover Grands Prix too, with the Super Mario Bros. Wonder event now underway.
From today (15th December) until 19th December, you can take part in Tetris 99's battles with Wonder-inspired pieces taking centre stage. As you play, you'll receive points, 100 of which can be used on a tie-in Mario Wonder theme, so you can keep the Mushroom Kingdom vibes going permanently.
This event follows the likes of WarioWare: Move It!, Super Mario RPG and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, all of which have been treated to similar tie-ins in recent months. Remember, to get involved you will need an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription (and an eye for Tetris doesn't hurt, either).
Will you be taking part in this event? Let us know in the comments.

Been so pre-occupied with Pokemon DLC that I completely forgot this was happening this weekend, definitely going to take a crack at it!
I'm not going to sub for it (unless there's another 7 day trial), but this is probably the best theme they've ever done for Tetris 99, and I say this as a complete WarioWare tragic.
And I daresay that this is the best thing to come out of Wonder, even more so than Wonder itself.
Incidentally, it's still really annoying that older special themes haven't been made available again.
That is just Wonderful. I'll be playing this evening. I usually unlock these themes in 3-4 matches.
@sanderev Nintendo recently made the event scoring much more generous, so the reward can indeed be reached very quickly.
This one looks fantastic. Hopefully the dark background will play well in terms of letting us see the gaps in our stack.
@Burning_Spear I usually end up in the top 10 anyway. Sometimes even in the top 5. Yeah, unlocking these is quite easy.
Had a couple of games this morning before work, great theme!
I'll play long enough to unlock the theme at least, as I normally do with these events
Ive just accepted I'll never get 1st lol
@BASEDSAKRI getting to 1st place is difficult yes, but doable. Getting to second place is a lot harder
@Burning_Spear Yep, I ended on 2nd (50 points) and 5th (40 points), getting 90 points in the process and feeling frustrated I couldn't get another 3rd place on my second try.
Not that I'm complaining, as I ended up unlocking the theme anyway.
I think it was either the theme of Xenoblade Definitive Edition or Paper Mario: The Origami King that I was able to get on my first try.
Something to note.
With this theme, we have had 30 event themes so far.
@HammerGalladeBro Wow, thirty. I've been OCD about playing all the events, so I don't have to worry about themes being unavailable later, as some apparently are. I played last night but couldn't do any better than third.
I really don’t get much out of the themes. I usually change it back to the generic theme anyway. Anyone got a theme they think improves the playability?
