Last year's Wii version of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit didn't go down brilliantly with gamers, but hopefully EA can atone for its errors with this year's entry Need for Speed: The Run on Wii. It's not just Wii getting a look in though, as Need for Speed: The Run is coming to 3DS as well.
Promising "immersive storytelling" the game will see players racing across the United States from San Francisco to New York, presumably overtaking a lot of cars in the process. As the game is also heading to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 we expect most of the details in the press release below to refer to those consoles rather than the Nintendo versions, particularly if past history is anything to go by, but we'll keep you updated on new developments.
EA TAKES GAMERS ON THE RACE OF THEIR LIVES IN NEED FOR SPEED THE RUN
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – April 29, 2011 – Get ready to rip up the road! Adrenaline junkies and speed fiends will find themselves on the wrong side of the law this November when they race for their lives in Need for Speed™ The Run from Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS). The hottest blockbuster this holiday is a game that takes players on a heart-pounding cross-country race from San Francisco to New York. Launching on November 15, Need for Speed The Run lures players into an underground world of illicit, high-stakes racing. The heat is on – and it isn’t just the fuzz who are after you. Entering the race is just the beginning as you blow across borders, weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds. Powered by DICE’s state-of-the-art Frostbite ™ 2 engine, Need for Speed The Run takes the action racing genre to new heights with stunning visuals and car physics that hug the road even at top speeds all built around a gripping storyline. The cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story will have you at the edge of your seat… all the way from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Empire State building.
“This is the year that Need for Speed goes to the next level,” said Jason DeLong, Executive Producer at EA. “We think that Need for Speed The Run is going to surprise people with its intense, thrilling story and big action feel. But the game would be nothing without hot cars and crazy-fast chases. So that is what we’re delivering — explosive racing that will have players flirting with disaster at 200-miles an hour.”
Using the groundbreaking Frostbite 2 engine, Need for Speed The Run will set the bar with unparalleled visual quality and enhanced physics. Need for Speed The Run will also take immersive storytelling to a new level with cutting edge performances that will draw the player into a world with no speed limits, rules or allies. Autolog, the Need for Speed franchise’s revolutionary social competition functionality, is back and better in Need for Speed The Run as it will continue to reinvent how people play games, track career progression and compare game stats.
Developed by Black Box , a studio of Electronic Arts , Need for Speed The Run will be available November 15, 2011 in North America and November 17, 2011 in Europe for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PC, Wii™ and Nintendo 3DS™.

the part where it got my attention was when they were getting shot a by a plane.
story doesnt mean anything to me when the gameplay sucks
hmm sounds like an impossible game to pull on 3ds.. what's the catch?
I wanted Hot Pursuit on 3DS, but I guess this will suffice.
Doesn't have to do much to be better than HP Wii. That was absolutely dreadful. Begs the question, why bother making a crap game when they could've used the Nitro engine with different textures and tracks for HP Wii?
i might get it for 3ds
Don't have much hope for the Wii version, especially after EA's previous comments regarding the platform. 3DS may be one to look into though. I heard that a handful of NFS efforts on the previous DS systems were pretty solid. Hopefully the track record will continue on Nintendo's new portable.
To clarify, they probably mean the PS3 and 360 versions will run on the Frostbite 2 engine. Based on technical power, the Wii and 3DS versions will probably run on a different engine. I don't care about the Wii version, but I hope the 3DS version turns out good.
I'm interested in the 3DS version but if it doesn't have online multiplayer then I'll wait for Mario Kart 3DS!
Why can't EA Sports just canned the Wii version already? We know it's going to suck and they're wasting money on it with more shovelware.
Honestly, this shouldn't even be news in here, let other websites cover it.
Hmm, sounds like a revamped Need For Speed Undercover, which I haven't really had much experience with.
I really hope this is good whether it's a port of the HD version or it's own game, HP wii = fail
Stoked. I remember playing the first Need For Speed on PS1.. The memories.
this looks so uninteresting :/
I'm probably the only one in existence who thinks this but.... I like Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Wii version better than Need for Speed: Nitro Wii. Why? Sure the graphics are better on Nitro, but the cars are faster in Hot Pursuit, hence the 'bland' buildings etc. sorta just become a blur as you go really fast the whole time. Also the cars are cheaper & hence the games more fun for me, simply because I don't have to use all these dodgy cars to unlock the fun ones. Also, the "graffiti" mode thing in Nitro was really gimmicky to me, oh & the controls felt better in Hot Pursuit too, though that could just be because I had access to cars faster in Hot Pursuit than I did in Nitro. Oh yeah & those dorky looking characters in Nitro don't help either But eh, guess everyone's different ay?
Why do people actually like this garbage franchise... I've seriously never played a good Need for Speed game. They have all been crap.
The sooner we start seeing solid RPGs, Action, and Shooters on 3DS the better.
The reason why PSP outsells 3DS right now is because amazing RPG and Action games are out for it. NOT racing games. On 3DS we have Mario Kart, and no other racing game can be better than this. Mario Kart is enough for a looooong time. Unfortunately Resident evil revelations, metal gear solid etc, are long time ahead. so we have to suck our thumb and wait till then. Thank god Ocarina is coming soonish.
I have a very strong feeling that this NFS thing is going to be such a failure.. especially on 3DS.

I'd hope for online-play on the 3DS version....
The only NFS game I've liked in recent years is Nitro. May not get this. I'm waiting for the next version of Burnout or Outrun please.
We'll probably get the PSP port if the devs are being lazy.
