Wait... How many Mortal Kombat movies are there now?

@Zeebor15 Four live action including the new one, though that number is bumped up to 8 if you include Direct to Video home releases. At least, last I recalled.

Well i was not expecting a mortal combat movie in 2025, but hey maybe it'll be good, seeing the track record of good video game movies (hahah, this is gonna age like milk isnt it....)

Full disclosure, I legit forgot about the previous movie, it was that forgettable to me. 😅 Hey, I should give it another chance and see if I was simply in a bad mood when I previously watched it. Maybe.

Last one was pretty forgettable after the first scene, kano was kinda fun but the main protagonist was really boring. Working from my bad memory, he had a special jacket or some power making him more powerful the more hurt he got.

Don't know much about MK, but cheesy bad movies are a delight of mine. I remember watching a couple of them on a long flight, crusty seat screen quality + cheap 2003 earphones... kinda like an early youtube vibe that you can't get anymore

@MagicEmperor nope it kinda sucked and the majority in my state were home with nothing much else to do

I liked the first one for what it was but it was way too long and plodding at points, and a lot of it just felt like it was changing things for the sake of changing them. I'm down for a sequel but might wait until it hits Max to actually see it.

lol Anihilation felt like one big high budget cosplay convention. It was pure garbage compared to MK 1995, but the latest one that released a couple of years ago really left a sour taste in my mouth. Better than Anihilation, sure, but it paled in comparison to MK 1995.

I like what they did with Kabal and maybe Sub-Zero, but it fell flat, lacked the cinematography, flare, soundtrack and atmosphere of MK 1995. No contest.

The problem with most movies these days is that they opt for realism, and wind up having this tonally bleak down and out vibe vibe and Shot on digital. Back in the day we escaped with movies that were larger than life, colourful, fantastical, with whimsically awesome soundtracks and fun theatrical performances that forced you to suspend your disbelief and kind of enter a world unlike our own. Most modern movies just aren't like that anymore.

More arcana and Cole? Thanks but no thanks.

@MagicEmperor I actually enjoy the movie myself. The new character Cole is boring and his power is goofy af, but I loved all the other actors/characters. Its a fun popcorn movie. But that is the same way I look at the game franchise too. Just for fun, nothing to read too deep into.

@MagicEmperor yeah I really do hope it is good or at least fun. I just want a few longer less edited down fights and a protagonist the isn't so generic. You could have bet me 1000 simoleans to name the lead actors character or remember reptile was in the movie. You would have won my fake money.

@DestructoDisk Yeah, this is why I want to watch the movie again and get a second opinion because I think I want to give it another chance. I feel like I need to treat the movie more like how I treat the games, and my fear is I watched the movie in very a grumpy, distracted mood at the time. Which is... fatal for a movie. FATALITY!

What for ? The first remake was utter garbage ... It was not goofy , not even a good stupid movie , it was stupid stupid .

Lewis Tan needs to return but as a different character, maybe as Kenshi or Mavado. I feel he shouldn't be wasted as a nobody in the new movie. Cole Young needs to go, they could just make a story where he went to search for Johnny Cage and got his ass killed by Kintaro or something.

I have a real soft spot for the previous MK movie so I'm low key rooting for this one to improve upon the first. Also, I don't know how you do it in the story, but please bring back Josh Lawson as Kano. He was a...delight in that movie.

I actually saw the original second movie in theaters and did it ever suck. First 5 minutes in i knew something was terribly wrong. Probably the worst movie sequel in history. Most of the actors were recast and badly i might add The special effects looked like they degraded from 10 years before the actual year it released (1997) and the acting was a total cheese fest. It was like watching power rangers.

Hope they do it right this time.

Will we actually have a tournament this time.....?

Had the same thought a few months ago and watched it again. It may not have been 'bad'.... It's just sort of 'there.'

MK 1995 is the best video game adaptation. (Sonic flicks are pretty close.) HEY, I just remembered there's a MONSTER HUNTER movie!

We walked out of the theater and one of my friends declares "I think that was better than thr first one!!!" My jaw dropped, I lost it... "It was a bunch of really shifty music videos just stitched together!" Probably the worst movie ever made, all things considered.

@WhiteTrashGuy The first Resident Evil movie, the DOA movie, the first Tekken live action movie, the first Silent Hill movie, and Detective Pikachu are actually pretty good as video game movies too. In Japan they even had Fatal Frame and Persona movie as well.

Not a fan of RE, but man yes, DOA is exactly what it needed to be. I've watched parts of TEKKEN and it looked good. Was there opening night for DETECTIVE PICKACHU and it's pretty solid too. Need to check out FATAL FRAME!

I liked the first one and thought the sequel would be good. I was really into MK back then. I remember actually being excited. I was 17 then and taking Tae Kwon do at the Y. A bunch of the students in my class all went to see it and boy was i disappointed. This movie is why people still have a hard time Taking videogame movies seriously.

Seems I'm in the minority that actually liked the previous one. Looking forward to this as well.

Karl Urban would have been a great Kano, but he just isn't Johnny Cage. Then again these days it's surprising Cage is played by a man.

I was also in High School and it just blew my mind how bad it was; especially after how well the first movie set up a sequel. The hype was real! It really did tank the idea of video game movies. Then Uwe Boll came along and made it even worse!

I watched the new MK the first time and didn't quite like it but, after watching a second time and knowing what to expect I enjoyed it a lot more, even Cole wasn't so bad!
In any case, I'm looking forward to the MK2 as they will really get into the tournament itself and, hopefully, it will be a good action film!

I'd have given it a shot if they had cast Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin as Johnny Cage, like he had been putting it out there for years, but they didn't.

Ya, If i were you I would just pass on MK(2021) and instead hop over to YouTube and watch some of the scenes involving Sub-Zero. Scratch that, they've aged pretty poorly and it's only been over 2 years! Here's something better.
